I do THR and one CAS site and now here.
I have only been a member of one social networking site and that was over 10 years ago.
Funny story;
My sisters were all over MySpace when it was a thing and they were on Faceplant when it started warming up.
My youngest sister, Joyce, was on every social media site there was at the time, 2010, and she constantly badgered me to join one with her.
One day I finally relented and joined some site I can no longer remember the name of. I remember the little teddy bear icon that was their trademark or mascot or whatever.
Anyway, I would go on there occasionally but noticed there was a lot of risqué discussion intermingled with political stuff between men and women. Lots of flirting, which I thought was weird. I more or less lurked but would occasionally join my sister in discussions but one day I noticed she just up and vanished on that site. I thought to myself “Thank Gawd! Now I don’t have to feel guilty about not frequenting that site.”
Since I stopped visiting I started get emails from women on the site asking me questions. Questions like;
“Do you kiss and tell?”
“Would you ever cheat”
“Do you have a side gig?”
Stuff like that. I ignored them.
One day I got an email that said “Want me to rock your world?” It was from Joyce, which I thought the email was coming from my sister.
I opened it and went to the site thinking “WTH is my sister up to?”
The email invite wasn’t from my sister. It was from a lady in my area that openly said she sold sexual favors, if you know what I mean. I had a bunch of “mail” on the site and started looking and it dawned on me that this was a site for “Swingers, prostitutes and those with loose morals”. It was basically an online sex site for people to hook up.
I contacted my sister and told her what I discovered.
She says “Yeah, it’s online prostitution. That’s why I left.”
My sister’s a dingbat.
I asked her why she didn’t tell me and she said she didn’t think about it. Dingbat!
Anyway, I contacted the owners of the site and had them delete all my info. They were very nice and apologized saying that they needed to make their site more upfront about what it was.
That was my one and only foray into “social networking”.
