New Mexico Governor said she will pursue electric vehicle (EV) tax credits and directed the state to transition to EV to achieve a zero-emission vehicle fleet by 2035 - https://www.reuters.com/business/au...edits-achieve-zero-emission-goals-2023-10-17/

While I could see most of government vehicles being able to operate on electric charging, there are vehicle operations that are not practical due to remoteness from charging stations and long hours of use.

I mean, will there be charged cars/SUVs/trucks for each shift of police/sheriff/state trooper as batteries require charging. What about transport and utility vehicles (Snow plow, etc.) that operate continuously all day? How about remote patrol/search and rescue vehicles that could travel far from charging stations?

Modern electric cars and trucks can travel for about seven hours at 50-60 mph before an hour's charging to about 80%.
Good enough for most government work.

Personally, I'm all for electrification of most vehicles.
I'm just tired of the government trying to force my adoption so that they can install an 'off' switch on my personal travel... .

I retired from state government and an hour charging break sounds good to me. :D(y)

Me too and I believe our next vehicle may be an EV.

I am hoping the solid state battery technology that Toyota and other companies are developing come to market sooner to shorten charging time and extend range.

Personally, I am even thinking about the solar powered Aptera with 400-1000 mile range, 0-60 in 4 seconds and enough solar charging to drive around 40 miles each day (Plenty for around town shopping/errands) - https://aptera.us/vehicle/

That sure beats my first attempt, back in the '70's.
That involved a Microbus body mounted on a Dodge pickup chassis, an aircraft starter motor mounted directly on the rear axle, and four big 12 volt golf cart batteries.
Maybe had 30 miles range without the trailer-mounted generator... .

One of the nice things about EV's is that when they aren't moving down the road, they're not using much juice.
Cop cars that are waiting in ambush are just running their AC, computers and radios - and their all-around cameras... .
