My cataloger, a daughter of one of Chiang Kai-sheck's generals, has retired and moved away. She had many links to family and friends in Taiwan and the mainland.
My previous boss, who was the librarian at the International School in Baghdad for 25 years, died recently.
She and her husband, a retired Iranian officer in the engineering corps who raised four daughters there and had many relatives scattered throughout the region, has also died.
Other sources of information are also fading away because of retirement, poor health and death.
It's getting hard for me to get the inside story about what's going on around the world... .
