Who's Been Vaccinated?

Thrilling.
I took the full Moderna course, got COVID anyway, and was informed a couple of hours ago that I tested negative and can go back to work tomorrow.
Pfizer is supposedly about 3/4 as effective against the new variants as Moderna.
Fifteen days to stop the spread... .

Biology is messy, no doubt - it offers probabilities, not certainties.

I was given the choice to get the jab or get fired. A week later they asked me to come back.
Very happy for you that they had to crawl on their knees and give you back your job. Will happen more often in the coming month because as it has always been, GOOD people are hard to find.

Got this through Google translate ... Links point to Russian website for organizing interior space ... And this thread is about Covid vaccine ... Post #86 being reported as off topic spam

"The design of a modern interior begins with the search for such a planning solution of the room, which will be functional and ergonomic, comfortable and concise. The main ergonomic standards of interior design are formed on the basis of the Le Corbusier modulator, which gives an idea of the average proportions of the human body. Compliance with the norms of ergonomics in the planning of the interior of the room, which will be most convenient for a person, concerns the height of the ceilings and areas of functional zones, the width of passages and openings, the levels of placement of curtains and equipment, etc. Ergonomic norms are always taken into account when developing the layout and spatial composition of the interior."

So what stock do antivaxxers take in the argument that a population refusing to be vaccinated give the virus the means and opportunity to mutate into something that is more contagious, deadlier and more resistant/resistant altogether to the current vaccines thus making additional vaccines necessary?

Being more of a libertarian than anything else, I'm generally oppose to Big Brother telling me to do anything.

However, I can't shake the feeling that those refusing the vaccine is akin to swimmers who continue splashing about after a shark warning... because they don't believe the warning is valid or are indifferent to the danger.

Sure, I've chosen to exit the waters and climb into this rubber dingy to lessen my chances of losing life or limb to sharks drawn by the turbulent, splashing waters. That was a personal choice.
However, those ignoring the shark warnings and instead continuing to splash about may attract much larger, more aggressive sharks, complete with their increased ability to bite through and sink my dingy.

So... do I place the blame of my demise this larger, dingy-shredding shark? Should those swimmers who attracted the larger, nastier sharks with their continual splashing, despite the endless warnings, shoulder some of the blame? What say you?

Not much I hope as the idea is counter-intuitive. Consider, a vaccine that does not prevent infection only softens the impact. This means the virus will have more resistance to the weaker strains creating a new and stronger virus. Keep in mind that Darwin works as well for virii as he does for more complex creatures. An organism that cannot adjust to it's environment is slowly replaced by one that can. Case in point would be measles in the 1800's. Europeans had been exposed and the weaker more affected individuals removed from the gene pool. When the disease was exported to North America the contagion exploded among the various Indian tribes. As the old school veterinarian put it to me years ago - herd immunity comes from those able to be infected dying out early.

I've talked to a number of folks that do not plan to get vaccinated.
Most are young, healthy and skeptical of the government's claims about the various vaccines that are in current use.
They feel that the vaccines are more likely to directly or indirectly harm them than would the current forms of COVID.
They say that their decisions would probably be different if they were older and in poorer health (like myself)... .

What? the "virus will have resistance to the weaker strains"?

Anyway, whatever you think, the use of vaccines as a successful way to combat disease goes back a long way (e.g. variolation), and is why we don't have to worry about polio, smallpox, rubella, measles, whooping cough, rotavirus, diphtheria, mumps, etc.

Yes, you can get some protection from 'herd immunity', but at the cost of potentially tens of millions of deaths or disabled people. Smallpox wiped out tens of millions of Native Americans, but is no longer a threat because of the vaccine, not herd immunity. Polio, BTW, was only fought with vaccines, because we never achieved 'herd immunity'.

Lord! Are you also opposed to widespread literacy and the refrigeration of food?

This perspective on the dangers of the vaccine is wrong, and has been spread by right-wing conspiracy theorists and that famous immunologist Jenny Mccarthy.

Since we know of no young people who have died from the COVID vaccine, and lots of young people who have died or been hospitalized due to the infection, I think we can pretty much dismiss that argument out of hand. The math on this is simple.

People have died because of the spread of COVID disinformation, and anyone who participates in that lie has blood on their hands.

Oddly enough, almost all of these folks that I talked to claim to be left of center.
Most are lifelong Democrats or democratic Socialists.
I'll be sure to tell them to go wash their bloody hands when next we meet... .

Please do. Anyone spreading vaccine disinformation needs to be called out.

Can't speak for the original poster, but no, that is not "the plan." Nor is it the ideal.

You'll have to ask the CDC or someone about "the plan." The ideal should be to help as many as possible while doing as little harm as possible. Remember, anything you do can kill you, including doing nothing. A public health policy designed to save everyone is doomed to failure. Public health policy should be designed to keep as many people as possible alive and healthy.

Any novel disease is going to kill some number of the people exposed to it. So far, no disease that kills everyone exposed to it has become widespread (or there wouldn't be anyone alive now). A vaccine that works well (and it has yet to be established that the current offerings do) still has a chance of killing you, or of failing to prevent you from dying from the disease. NO vaccine to date is 100% safe and 100% effective. Luckily, they don't have to be in order to work for the population as a whole. Nor do they have to be taken by everyone.

If we adopt a vaccination regime that encourages a pathogen to develop more virulent strains, we will probably wind up killing more people than if we just let a mild pathogen (and a 99%+ survival rate is a pretty mild pathogen) run its course.

Is this "fair"? Who says the universe is fair? Sometimes you get dealt a lousy hand. Often when you do, the smartest thing to do is fold.

So to be clear - your plan is just to stand back and let people millions of die?

spent about 5 years in Asia between 2012 and 2018, three of those in china.

Knowing they are having problems providing for the elderly population (one child policy) made asshole pooh ""allowing"" families to have more than one.
Simply because they need YOUNG and PRODUCTIVE workers to supplement the very poor retirement money for the old. In addition, a vast majority of Chinese men smoke and they are weak (lack of good nutrition) compared to Westerners.

The AVERAGE Chinese:

They have no conscience.
No scruples to rip off friends.
Typical commie egoistical attitude.
No manors or discipline.

Not at all a surprise that the wuhan virus swept through china and other countries and for the most part hit older people, and don't think the release of the virus was accidentally.
It may have been a bit premature, but the plan all along was to get rid of the older, useless burden for society.

Since several of my coworkers are married to Chinese and other Asians, I took my voice recorder into a few meetings, and let me tell you, the translation from our interpreters are quite different when compared to the ones from my colleagues wives.

NEVER EVER TRUST muzzies or the smiling communist Asians.

South Korea and Taiwan is a different story, fine people for the most part.
