Who's Been Vaccinated?

I had my first shot Saturday. Very unsettling environment . it was a mass vac site set up in an abandoned grocery store, kind of eerie but the unsettling part was the military presence . don't get me wrong, I strongly support our soldiers but this was odd. No less than 50 guardsmen in full combat fatigues doing it all. I had to show my id many times and had to show my vac card to be let out. They pressured me to set up a 2nd appt. which I declined. Figure I'll see if I feel like getting #2 when the time comes
Whole thing just seemed very strange. Welcome to the world of tomorrow

We got ours locally (Cleveland, Ohio) suburbs. Set it up through out Med Net (University Hospital) and it was easy in and easy out. The local public locations are all done by National Guard and yes they are in their fatigues. We just showed ID and got the first shot and about a week or two later got the second shot. Neither my wife or I had any side effects and there really was nothing to it. Having seen it on TV the downtown public locations were all being manned by Ohio National Guard and all in fatigues. At the hospital satellite we went to it was mostly RN and volunteer people. Local drug stores also have pharmacist administering injections. Went to my local Rite Aid drugstore a few days ago and there was a line. Glad I asked if it was for prescription pick up? Nope it was for vaccine so I just picked up my prescription and left.

Personally if they start rioting in Cleveland I am fine with a military (National Guard) presence. Start to worry when you see fully armed troops. The National Guard is just a branch of the military with both federal and state responsibility. We see them following hurricanes and tornado disaster and during this COVID outbreak administering vaccine. Nothing unsettling about the guard being around after any type disaster. When a state is lacking the resources to get things done they rely on the guard. Be glad they were there.

Get your second immunization when and if you are comfortable doing so. I will always defend the right of anyone to refuse the immunization. I personally do not believe anyone should be forced into anything like an immunization.

I should have elaborated as to the uneasy feeling I had from the military presence. To me, it felt like something from the Twilight zone. The reason I felt uneasy is just that this whole pandemic has been more and more about control, where you can go, who you can be around, which businesses will be closed by government order, what will and won't be allowed in the name of public health. It's been a weird ride , like something out of Orwell's bad dream. It's not a regular sight around here to see uniformed soldiers and to have such political pressure and fear surrounding the whole covid thing just spooked me a little. The thought in my head was if the government decides to further oppress us, these are the men and women tasked with controlling me. It isn't at that point right now but it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch.

As I said, I totally support our soldiers, I just don't love the sight of military working in their official capacity in my suburban town. I know I wasn't forced to be there for vaccination but I fear that this is how it starts. Soldiers doing menial tasks in the area and maybe some new task next year and eventually it progresses to armed soldiers tasked with keeping peace then it turns into more. That's not likely the reality but with the Capitol still surrounded and China Joe in charge who knows what other liberties they'll try to strip in the name of public safety. Little by little they change things until their will becomes our reality. I don't know what this demented old Turd is capable of and I wouldn't trust this regime to not take any freedoms that they think they can get away with.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist , just got a bad feeling in there. I felt like cattle going to get the medicine that big brother says I need. Since I did go voluntarily I know that's not really the case but I'm sceptical that our overlords will release us from this grip even if we have 100% of the population vaccinated . it's troublesome .

I don't know. Just what's in my mind and I can't shake it

Perfectly understandable. Yes, to say the least it is unnerving and I agree in that we are not accustomed to having rights usurped. Americans don't set well with a sudden martial law type environment. I have been in countries where martial law was in effect and enforced with armed troops. I can certainly relate and especially in an urban town environment. I also share the same concerns as to how hard a government can push under so called "public safety". Maybe because I am old and retired but I have little trust in government. You are not at all alone with being skeptical believe me.

I work in a hospital where folks with Covid frequent. This is the only time in the decade I've worked at this particular hospital where the morgue continually exceeds capacity. It's FAR better now, but around February/March, there really was a WTF period where we simply couldn't keep up.
For those who work within the medical field, has anyone noticed anything odd concerning the demographics of Covid fatalities, especially in rural areas?
I received the Pfizer vaccination during phase 1A and the second injection caused some fatigue the following day in addition to left side axillary lymphadenopathy (swollen underarm lymph node). This lasted perhaps a day and a half.

I am sorry to hear that. As a working scientist, I have occasional difficulties with family and friends who flout science for philosophical, political, or religious reasons. It speaks to very different and incompatible worldviews. I haven't had any luck, so I can offer no advice. At least no one espouses a flat Earth in my family!

But, sincerely, I wish you the best of luck with this!

ETA - 2 Pfizer injections. The second put me down for a day, but that means my immune system is working, so there's that!
See, that's your problem Roscoe. You think that just because you have an education, you know something.

I am soooo tired of folks that eat a quarter pounder with cheese, or a Wendy's double with cheesy fries telling me how to live. More people die every year from heart disease than covid, and heart disease can be cured with simple dietary changes. Why do you think you can tell me how to live???? Vegan Virgil

I just don't have the faith in those that expound science as some people apparently do.
I've studied too much history.
Yesterday's scientific fact is all too often today's belly laugh - especially when politics or religion are involved in the mix.
In this case I agree with you, roscoe, but not because of those that are treating this solution as a personal or political triumph.
It's more a matter of statistics and expediency.

Right - this is how science works. Science doesn't do religion or politics.

I am not aware of past science being a belly laugh, but advancing by finding errors is WHY science works. And it is why it works while other systems driven by dogma fail.

We honestly don't care if you catch COVID and keel over. That is your business. But COVID is a communicable disease. My stepmother almost died because someone with COVID visited her at her home, and couldn't be bothered to quarantine, or wear a mask in her presence, or even inform her. I know who that person is, and I would have held her responsible had my stepmother died.

YOU are morally responsible for the people you infect.

My front desk clerk is off getting her second shot right now.

Meanwhile, my city manager is deciding whether or not to fully open this library to the public. (We are currently limited to 25% occupancy and the stacks and meeting rooms are closed).

Also meanwhile, three or four tour buses per hour aew going by to pick up loads of COVID-infected illegals and carrying them north... .

Good point, I never really thought about it that way. Thanks. This whole coronavirus gets my panties so bunched up, I can't even think crooked, much less straight. Sorry

Johnson and Johnson vaccine day before yesterday. Just like any other shot I've ever had...
Was already in Walgreens anyway, no appointment, no wait. Sure hope I don't win a million dollars though. Can't afford the taxes on that much money.

Schools have mandated vaccines since the 19th century. Why is now different?
Because even though vaccinations are mandatory, they're really not. In the local school district here, the Amish folk send their special needs kids to the public school. They're exempted from being vaccinated due to religious views. Then there's the anti-vaxxers (which are very few) whose children can't be denied a public education here either.

Actually, there are several religious groups that can't be forced to have vaccinations under current law.
I happen to belong to one of them.
