The End of Epstein

It's odd when people from both sides of the political spectrum talk about the impending "suicide" of a politically powerful individual, then against all odds, and apparently with the assistance of multiple instances of bureaucratic incompetence that overlapped in just the right way, that "suicide" occurs. This is the first time this has happened in the history of this prison facility. It's funny, and sad, and frightening all at the same time. More than anything it points to our decreased faith in the media and the government - nobody really expects the truth to be reported from authorities.

A quick summary for those who know nothing about this situation:

First, from the New York Times article titled The Day Jeffrey Epstein Told Me He Had Dirt on Powerful People.

Almost exactly a year ago, on Aug. 16, 2018, I visited Jeffrey Epstein at his cavernous Manhattan mansion.

The overriding impression I took away from our roughly 90-minute conversation was that Mr. Epstein knew an astonishing number of rich, famous and powerful people, and had photos to prove it. He also claimed to know a great deal about these people, some of it potentially damaging or embarrassing, including details about their supposed sexual proclivities and recreational drug use.

So one of my first thoughts on hearing of Mr. Epstein’s suicide was that many prominent men and at least a few women must be breathing sighs of relief that whatever Mr. Epstein knew, he has taken it with him.

As a quick summary: here's a photo of Prince Andrew, an underage prostitute who is now suing, and the woman who got her into this line of work:

Reports from "Pedo Island" (Epstein's estate) indicate there were video cameras everywhere, and powerful people like Bill Clinton were known to take regular trips. 26 trips reportedly, without his Secret Service detachment which he left behind on each trip.

Anyway, it's a scene out of a novel, and there are enough powerful interests involved that we will likely never know the truth, but if you'd like a few minutes of entertainment I have the following videos that summarize some of the craziness. Note that these are all Youtube links, with a local copy stored beneath them in case Youtube deletes these accounts again:

From the Washington Post: Autopsy finds broken bones in Jeffrey Epstein's neck, raising questions around his death.

Another video take on it. (Not archived because it doesn't say much more than the article above. I'll need to ask a friend that works in the ER is a hyoid bone break implies strangulation or not...

I asked an ER friend if this was likely suicide, and got the following response: "Probably not. Would take a hell of a fall to do that damage."

I’m going to go with the old saying that the simplest explanation is the most likely explanation.

For someone to have strangled Epstein in his cell would have required the cooperation of many people. Everyone of those people would be a weak link in keeping it covered up.

While those bones in his neck being fractured might be unusual in a hanging they aren’t unheard of. And we have to remember, this wasn’t a hanging like most people envision it. If we can believe the news reports he tied the bedsheet off on the top bunk and leaned forward to strangle himself. That position alone could account for the broken bones.

The big question in my mind is who took him off of suicide watch and what was the justification?

I agree that slipping in a hit man is far fetched.
But, unable to resist a good conspiracy, I wonder who his last visitors were and what they said right before the suicide watch went off.
"Eppy old boy, they have the goods on you and you have nothing to look forward to but a life of imprisonment and degradation and abuse by inmates we all know hate sex fiends. Maybe you should just get it over with. Here is how to arrange the bedding..."

doubtful. probably more like, "we've paid everyone off and there's no way in the world you will ever get a communication out of this prison to effect blackmail on us."
