The best state to move to.

Here are three states to consider. They border each other and all three have Constitutional Carry. Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. All three have extremely low crime. New Hampshire has no income tax and no sales tax. Maine has a beautiful coast line. Vermont and Maine are very good for hunting and fishing. All three have stable economies. All three have vast stretches of rural areas. And all three could only benefit from conservative people moving there.
Interesting , never considered the north east. I was under the impression that it was too blue to consider. Thanks for the info, I'll look into it

VERY blue - all yhree. NH with no income or sales tax means property taxes and others are higher; VT has Sanders - enough said. Maine is also heavily dependent on government programs as most folks' jobs are seasonal

Hey Pal, I hear ya. Illinois is a template of corruption true Americans disdain anything good to say about who & what agenda comes out of there.
Similarly, I fled The People's Republic Of New Jersey to move to Pennsylvania five years ago, and although there's corruption in high places here like everywhere else the gestalt is different, people are nice and not "metro-paranoid" like metropolitan states. I speak of the Poconos specifically, my adoptive area, not the endemic welfare-ridden enclaves of major cities. This is a carry state and people are respectful, and friendly ! - imagine that ! - because there's an unsaid savvy everybody knows if someone is looking for trouble it could be their last foray into mischief and the police and neighbors will applaud you. There used to be a sign when one crossed the bridge from NJ to PA, "America Starts Here," (referencing Phila / Declaration Of Independence / Liberty Hall), and I always felt that way, Penna is more American than the polyglot cesspools of what NY & NJ became, - (and your (former ?) woeful state of Illinois liberalism. You might find it nice here. I do. I breathe easy my area is not a hard-crunch dog-eat-dog area. One can live and mind one's own business very nicely and not have to don a frown or a scowl as a standard "street face" anytime you leave the house. Big Difference vs my former NJ ! If one left the house looking sovereign and relaxed and not rushed and ornery in NJ people would think you didn't have your street mojo that day. Blahhh. I'd rather live free and able to carry and decide my own protection and attitude than having "the state" and 'the underclass" define it for me.
Right or wrong ? Live free or die, - (Vermont uses that term, but Penna is quite the same). Regards, - "Vincepo" in The Poconos.

Well I’ve lived in Michigan my whole life. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Utah and Colorado while visiting my sons. But I still love Michigan even though we have a moron for a governor. I finally decided I’d had enough of society so I retired and moved to Beaver Island. It’s at the Northern end of Lake Michigan about 26 miles out. Not many people here. Plenty of hunting and fishing. There’s a little bit of a learning curve as far as logistics go but it sure is peaceful here. Quiet as the mountains but with miles of desolate beaches, cedar swamps and beautiful hardwood forests. There are 2 deputies on the Island, both are big 2nd amendment people. Crime is as close to zero as it can get. I’m feeling pretty blessed.

WA threatened to improve a bit for a while, but now things are going stale.

The Democrats got silencer use and SBR's back, but Representative Brian Blake (D) said he didn't have the support for the short barreled shotguns.

The Range Protection Act failed and my local gun club is going bankrupt while awaiting a use permit for firearms. The other club I belong to will not allow me to shoot my 50 BMG, not even with a silencer and reduced loads.

I retire in three years and am going to spend most of my time in MN. I wish I had been able to find good work in Idaho back in 2003, that would ahve been a nice place to retire to.
MN is controlled by the radical Democrats in the Twin Cities. They are ruining a once great state.

I'm an ex-Texan and agree that there are far worse places to live---but---I have no desire to return there. I own land in the state and it wouldn't be difficult to move back but I never will. The property taxes are much higher than here and in certain counties it's worse after the county takes an extra bite. Sales tax and registration on motor vehicles along with sales tax on every purchase is higher too. Thery may not have an income tax but they more than make up for it compared to where I live now. The final naysayer for me is the fact that there is almost no public land to roam around on. Get off the road right of way and you are trespassing almost everywhere. Our gun laws are still somewhat better for the most part also.

A few years ago MN amended their laws concerning silencers. They were the only state that prohibited silencer possession by licensees; but not anymore. There is hope.

I fled Illinois weather 20 years ago for Florida. Taxes are low, gun laws are pretty light, the Republicans are firmly in control at the State level, but-

Like all cities now, the urban centers are crap, and they. are festering into the limited rural areas. We lack geographical depth to get away from the sprawl and traffic.

Then, of course, theres the humidity. I cant even stand walking outside 9 months of the year anymore.

Im seriously thinking about North Texas now. Maybe South Dakota or Idaho.

The Metroplesx (Dallas, Fort Worth area) which is in North Texas is a congested, crowded mess to me and I understand it's becoming pretty blue. Go west for aways and the population becomes sparce with rural values. Anytime I get east of Snyder in the summertime I don't care for the humidity and the farther east you go the worse it gets. Of course spending my entire life on the south plains I consider anything over about 20% humidity too much. North Texas, the Panhandle, and South Plains can get some cold and nasty winter weather too but each episode usually doesn't last long.

if you go west to California, avoid the urban areas such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. The somewhat smaller urban areas such as Sacramento, Fresno, Visalia, and Redding is pretty good. Most of the state is pretty and the weather is quite nice most of the year.

However, be prepared for the bizarre gun laws the state legislature has passed in the past 3 decades as well as high taxes, high cost of living, nanny government,, etc.,

We're making the move to Wisconsin ... so we're moving to the Lake Geneva area ...
Well, welcome to Wisconsin, but Lake Geneva is already sort of a Chicago suburb, and Wisconsin is already well down the Socialist toilet, so you may find it to be an improvement over Chicago, but it's not trending in the right direction.

The SE is pretty gun friendly. NC has a quirk to two, and FL has its blue areas, but the rest of the states are good gun states. GA was one of the first must-issue states.

North TX has worse humidity AND tornadoes; stay away from where the northerners retire to; which is Ocala southwards and things are great here in north Florida.........

Perhaps that is the best bet...
Move to the most-conservative county in the most-conservative state and hope for the best.
At the least, perhaps they will declare themselves RKBA / Second Amendment Sanctuaries.
