Planning Test This - THR might move to this software

Well, more directly, THR likely will move to this platform one day, as this is version 2 of the software THR runs on. THR is currently running on the last supported version of the 1.x branch.

The other role of this site is to serve as a testbed for stuff we're thinking of doing on THR. So play around, see what works, see what you hate, and let's talk it all through so when it's time to move THR we'll know what's least likely to upset people. :)

Well, for starters, perhaps new users here could have their profiles set to NOT email notices for thread replies, etc? I just noticed I have a slew of such new emails from this site. I'll go find the switch to turn them off.

If there is some discussion about profanity or touchy subjects, why not create a “Minefield” subforum? Marked appropriately. Enter at your own risk. Sort of a “take it outside” area. We can all be polite and reasonable out here, but the minefield could serve as an unfiltered area...

the downside to those is that sometimes they spill back into the general forum areas. But it would address some concerns from a few of the members...

just an idea, and won’t hurt my feelings either way

So far one of my favorite features on this one is being able to "preview" posts by hovering over them. I can see that helping to avoid clickbaity threads and get clarification on ones with mysterious titles.

Well VS changed S&W Forum and National Gun Forum in the last few days - I like it, especially the Dark Mode with black screen with white lettering

So far, this format is OK. Will take a little getting used to vs the current THR format. Still fumbling through the new S&W forum format.

I have no problem with what you do as long as you don't do away with the forum. I would 😪 if you did. I have no problem reading either format since I have gotten bionic eyes. One thing though, I can do without emails.

I think the "quote" and the "reply" features need work. People click on reply when they don't intend to quote and the quote gets inserted anyway. Quoting a certain post and replying to the thread at large should be two clearly distinct and separate functions. Yes, I realize that they already are, but it's not that obvious from the labels attached to the function links and buttons.

Also, I don't like white backgrounds as that seems to be de riguer in web design lately and I never like to follow the crowd.

That's my 2 cents, anyway, FWIW.
