Router Shopping

Well I went with a dewalt corded router, built a mini router table and just finished making a box joint jig! I really love this tool; seems like it opens up a world of possibilities.

It ain't the prettiest but I think it will work for me for awhile. Just getting more serious about this type of thing. After I get done with school and have a serious (and permanent) shop I'm going to make an improved router table and all that.

When I read your thread, I was not going to reply to it because it looked like you are set on a cordless. Really glad you went for one with a cord. Routers and they are fun to work with, but are demanding power, lots of it, and the ones operated with batteries would have made you probably unhappy.
De Walt is a good option and will serve you well. There is a good book from Patrick Spielman, the NEW ROUTER HANDBOOK, it is quite informative and helped me a lot.
My preference for woodworking tools are Porter Cable (before they became black&decker and turned plastic), unfortunately the motor from my plunge router 7529 burned up last week and there are no replacements manufactured anymore, unless I am willing to spent $195. Crazy, for this money I can buy another good Bosch 1617EVSPK.
So, for the time being my fixed Porter Cable 690 will have to do.
Saw at a very remote pawn shop a Hitachi M12VC, hardly used, for $95 (plunge and fixed base), perhaps I'll pick it up next week, still doing research on it.
Once you get used to a plunge router, you are spoiled
Good luck with your woodwork and be safe, they are moving fast and most of us have had at least one ""run-away" incident. Of course we would never admit it on a public forum..............................

I think I've came across that book in my research so thank you for the suggestion.
