Rand Paul and the lies of political gain

....Trump's attitude was always to pull up the drawbridges. But that obviously will never work with viruses. ....
Right!! Wow, I didn't realize you were anti-mask, anti-lockdown, anti-quarantine and anti-social isolation. Well!! A pleasant surprise!! Well done!! (y)

But it should also be noted he did so only on the strong advice of his "experts" and only with strenous objections and warnings about the collateral damage to society and the economy to be incurred when following their advice, and about that he was more than right.

No matter what he did, the economy was going to take a huge hit. You think the semiconductor chip shortage wasn't going to happen no matter what? And people weren't going to hunker down to protect their families?

The question was one of leadership. He needed to be square with the American public about the virus, but he kept downplaying it until it was too late to do anything but start shutting things down. After he had gutted our preventative systems.

The bleach and UV press conference was just the icing on the cake. Imagine being a serious medical professional with a lifetime of public service, like Fauci or Birx, and seeing that.

I think they pretty much did that to themselves by focusing on profit at the expense of preparedness. For example, I've examined the tax return of a local hospital that functions as an IRS non-profit (so they're required to publish a summary of their tax returns) that has a margin of 10%. There isn't a respectable for-profit corporation that wouldn't kill for a 10% profit margin. There's no reason the hospital couldn't have expended a couple percent on being better prepared. You can't blame Trump for those decisions by the bean-counters running the health care systems that rendered them unprepared for a pandemic.

These were federally-run organizations that are/were part of the Executive Branch. Profit doesn't enter into it.

Details on Trump's intent to cut the NIH, NSF, and CDC budgets by major amounts:

I think it is funny that Paul thinks his ophthalmology degree makes him qualified to understand virology. You can hear by the vagueness of his accusations that he is just throwing things out there. He has probably been fed a bunch of BS by some conspiracy types, but he is sure eating it up.

He just has no idea what he is talking about. Embarrassing!

And good luck with that DOJ probe, Paul! HA!Rand Paul i

Rand Paul is a medical doctor as is Fauci. The difference is that he does not have financial interests with the the vaccine manufacturers.

Sure, if ophthalmology is the same as virology and if doing Lasik procedures qualifies you to speak about viral genetics and disease vectors. Which it does not. Hey, I'm a fully qualified residential carpenter, but that doesn't mean I am qualified to design a suspension bridges. Sure, houses and bridges are things that are built to hold people, but you don't want me designing the refit of the Verrazano Bridge.

No, but he does have interests in Remdesivir. A sleazy little case of insider trading, I am afraid.

Nonsensical response. You stated you are a carpenter not a PE or structural engineer. Of course you are not qualified for bridge design. But a PE has the training to understand a structural engineer's design. Just as an ophthalmologist can understand virology because of the training received throughout med school. Many virus's that attack the body result in damage to the eyes. I suppose you cannot critique an architects or residential designers framing plan because you are a carpenter and all you can do is drive nail. Ridiculous!

That depends, if the carpenter is a devout leftist that has his mind right and follows the narrative, he would be free to "critique".

Incorrect. There is a reason the medical world has specialists. We would not let Fauci perform LASIK. Nor would we let Paul near a virology lab. Because he has no business being there. I teach at a medical school, and the education that med students get in virology in no way qualifies them to speak in the way Paul has. It requires years of specialized training in genetics, virology, evolutionary biology, epidemiology, and scientific publishing to be in a place to have sufficient knowledge to understand the COVID outbreak. Rand Paul has none of this education or experience, just the typical arrogance of a surgeon combined with the morally compromised soul of a politician.

Specialists are for that last 5%. Not only a "fully qualified residential carpenter" and you teach at a med school. What Seal team or special forces unit are you with?

I was a carpenter for 20 years. I am now a university professor. I have had time for that because I am old. I have no military experience. You are new here, so I am being polite. Look at my posts if you want more bonafides.

COVID requires specialists, not dilettantes like Rand Paul. If it were easy, in the '95%' it would already be solved.

You are new here so you probably don't realize that Fauci is basically Rosco's messiah.
Not at all. He is simply a reasonable voice. He presents the science as it stands at the moment, and refuses to be pushed around by politicians. So I do respect him for that.

The kooky right-wingers going after Fauci are simply trying to cover for Trump, who notably didn't follow the science (to the extent that he understood it).

I used to say that I would never "ignore" anyone's input.
@roscoe cured me of that... .

That is just cowardly.
