Race relations

I haven't given much thought to black people. I always just figured they were like everyone else, so I took them - like everyone else - as I found them, and assumed that's what normal people did.

Turns out that makes me a racist. Apparently I'm supposed to think of them differently, or recognize their unique experience, or understand that my view is irretrievably tainted by my white privilege, or some other damn thing I don't understand.

A few years back the #metoo idiocy got so far out of hand that I realized it was a bad idea to ever be alone with a woman to whom I am not related. I'm starting to feel like the same may now be true of black people. This doesn't seem like progress.

There is only one human race.
We're all members.
Only racists disagree with that.
This.

If someone thinks a person should be treated differently (better or worse) because of the color of their skin, they're a racist. Pretty simple concept . but to the insane people, if you're white you should bow down and be forever in debt for the sins of our great great grandfathers (but my family never owned slaves and didn't come to the US until the turn of the century) . the people who want to divide us are the same people who lost the last civil war, democrats .

When Obama was elected twice, by White people, I tried to tell those who thought we were finally "there" that they had not seen anything yet. I was even more on the mark than I dreamed. Ever since a white, corrupt, female lost the election EVERY white person who does not bend the knee to the liberals is a "racist"

I'm honestly concerned that all this nonsense is turning me into an actual racist. As per the opening post, I always have thought of blacks as the same as everyone else. Now when I encounter one (in my admittedly Lilly white neighborhood) I wonder if he is thinking of me as his enemy, or if he considers himself a victim of my whiteness, or any of the other nonsense that is going around.

I won't argue too strongly if a black person tells me that institutional racism is real. I have real doubts that, if it is, the current climate is a step in the right direction.

Had two idiots in my squad in Viet nam, black guy from Detroit and red neck from mississippi.
Put them both together in a hole on the right flank one night and said, see you in the morning! Maybe!
we got hit hard, they kicked ass and by morning were best buds.
we are all in our seventies now but at reunions these two are still tight,.
Two years ago we are in a strip joint in Fayetteville and some locals had a problem with us.
We kicked ass.

I believe there are pockets of racism all over the country and it doesn't have to include blacks. When BLM is mentioned I wonder which black lives are you talking about, the thousands of black babies that are born in this country without a father, the black businesses that are burned to the ground by their so called black brothers leaving the owners destitute after giving decades of sweat and tears to build that business. The young black men that walk around with their pants below their butts. I agree that there should be nationwide standards for police departments as to how they handle anyone that needs to be arrested. But to blame the ills of society on police departments is just plain stupid. There should be serious discussions on a nationwide platform as to how blacks should clean up their backyards regarding some of the issues that I've mentioned as It isn't all one way folks. Our leaders in the country will not say the things that I've said and they should if this country is ever going to come to grips with this race issue. Hate and divisiveness will never solve anything but frank discussions are a good start, where's the gutty guy to start it?

BUT (my add)

I won't argue too strongly if a black person tells me that institutional racism is real.

So is it nonsense, or is it not? Never go full retard. We’re all racist in our own way, as we always have been and always will be, so my solution is to live by the Golden Rule yet tie up my camels at night.

I’ve never heard a coherent explanation of what, exactly, institutional racism is with our current laws. So, I can neither agree nor disagree. But the fact that there is no clear example tells me something.

I completely agree. There is no wording in any current law (that I've ever seen or anyone has ever pointed out) that specifies race as a condition of legality . unless of course you count the laws and programs in place that provide for special treatment of minorities , hunting/trapping/fishing freedoms for native Americans as well as the privilege of opening casinos and the education assistance for various minorities plus various financial assistance programs. There's no white guys only college fund, if there was it would be deemed racist. No law that says if a white guy does xxx the sentence is xxx and if a black guy commits the same crime his punishment is xxx. It's all BS.

My mom (an insane lefty) has told me about the oppression of native people and all we took from them. I mentioned that as a white man in America I have never: inhereted land , given privileges others don't have nor can I return to my family's ancestral home in Europe and claim it was stolen from me and claim I have rights to it. It's ignorant to think anyone owes anyone special treatment. I've never owned slaves, in fact my family wasn't on the north American continent until after 1900, beyond that there are no black folks alive that have been slaves (in North America ). Anyone at all who would like to give their property for reparation to native Americans or African Americans out of guilt of some kind can feel free to do so. I've never stolen so much as a candy bar and have worked hard to earn everything I have, paid for my own education and I haven't called in sick to work in almost 13 years- I've had exactly nothing given to me just like I deserved . same as everyone else, entitlement based on ethnicity is nonsense and anyone who believes differently IS a racist. Special treatment for special races. Not seeing any of this privilege I allegedly have.
