Looking good!

As someone who's been woodworking for years, was a carpenter longer than that and currently works in a lumber mill I'm curious, what tools did you have at your disposal to accomplish this?

Just wondering if you had a shop with more standard machines or if you were working with power tools that I would call "jobsite" type tools.

Either way its impressive. I've followed guitar builds before and its no small feat. Yours is coming along nicely.

Just the usual homeowner basement shop amateur DIY tools. I try to do as much as I can by hand and with as little power and as few special tools as possible. My main disadavantage is not having a proper dust-handling system. It's just sweep and vacuum. I put up plastic drop cloths around the primary work area to contain the dust spread when I'm generating a lot of it, but that's about it. It would be nice also to have a planer, a band saw, a drill-press, and a fixed belt sander, but if I can make do without, that's my modus operandi.

This guitar-build is my first, so it's not going to be what you'd call "marketable" - but if it just works, I'll consider it a success.

Sounds good. I like folks that make do with what they have. I did the same for many years. For you to do so building a guitar is more than impressive.

That being said, you'd love the shop I work in everyday.

I almost forgot, nothing real impressive, but the wife had me pumping these out like crazy before Christmas. I swear I think we had a battalion of them at one point.

Simple Christmas gifts for a bunch of folks.

Most of the loose parts flying in close formation - just a howgozit to verify all my templates and jigs are actually producing the desired result. You never can have enough templates and jigs, hah!!

The pickguard looks crappy because the blank stock material comes with a couple layers of protective plastic that are still on it but starting to peel around the edges. And, I might still do something different with the control plate. Milling that one from a Telecaster control plate turned out OK, but isn't really ringing my bell; also if those surface scratches don't easily buff out, the chrome plate on those things is really thin.

A few years ago my neighbor built a new house and wanted me to make him a sliding barn door.
He had in his storage building two large slabs of walnut and we carried it over in my garage.
Being only a hobby woodworker with minimal tools and little space, it was quite a challenge.

Biggest problem was transporting and installing it because I just had a motorcycle accident 6 month prior and all the new metal in my shoulder made it painful.

But they like it and got it as my house warming gift and I think it looks okay.

That x-ray look like a metal-working project and frankly, one not too skillfully done, hah hah.

Hopefully it all heals up back to "almost like new".

Fun fact, if you look back on the first page you can see another bowl that was turned from the same chunk of wood this one was.

I gave that one to my Mom and the leftover chunk had been sitting out in the shop for a few years.

I found it fitting to make "sister bowls" even though they're not the same profile.

My mother finally ordered chairs and I spent part of the afternoon assembling them today.

They weren't what we were expecting in terms of color but they contrast ok.
