New here

I can't offer much input on fishing, but I'd happily discuss the news with you.

Thank you, kindly. It’s strange to see another side of a human, just because there is no moderation to keep them in check. He probably doesn’t return his shopping cart either...
I wonder if he’s having a rousing conversation with George, or if he only vultures New Bees? One fights a fire at its source, not to the person that wants everyone to get along so the site doesn’t fail.

And save for the obvious, it is good to see some familiar handles, Wronghanded.

It's been quite eye opening just to see people speak freely about topics not permitted on THR. We all came together because we like and appreciate firearms, but in many ways we may see the world very differently from one another.

I guess what matters most to me is that when people disagree, they can do so politely and respectfully. In all fairness to Ed, he seems to have been doing a good job of being both respectfully and also reasonable in most of his posts here that I've read. Although what happened on this thread did pretty much come off as an ambush, and on a topic which I feel was out of place given the original intent of the thread.

But if I were you, I wouldn't worry about it too much. The beauty of forums like this is that we get to choose our interactions, and can ignore anyone we like.

Glad to have you here, Demi-human.

Many may not have been around in the days of the Usenet boards. Most were totally open, people could literally say anything they wanted. Only way to get tossed was if your ISP started to get too many complaints and would tell you they no longer wanted you as a customer. So it was hard to do. I thought they were a lot of fun but, MANY could not handle it well at all :)

A question was asked. I answered. It wasn’t a “this place looks awesome I’m excited to be here” answer but it was the honest answer, and I strive to be honest at all times.

Someone decided to challenge my answer, and I responded with the exact info requested. I didn’t generalize or try to spin. I used the least damaging quote that proved my point. I provided full context so people could judge for themselves rather than needing to take my word for it. I further softened the answer by pointing out that the example had not proved to be representative of posts in general. In other words, I bent over backwards to be both factual and nice.

If people hadn’t made assumptions about me and my motives, and tried to step in and “prove me wrong” when the facts that made my point were right there, there would not have been an “ambush”, and had people not doubled down on defending the indefensible with straw men and speculation there would have been no argument.

Probably zero surprise for folks who used it, but I do really miss Usenet. Not the outright trolls, but the ability to have a proper argument on a subject without bystanders shutting it down because argument makes them uncomfortable.

No conversation with me; he has some issues I guess with something I said; oh well, it is the internet after all.(y)

Ed, I understand what you're saying. I also understood your intent at the time of first reading your posts. I'm not assigning any blame, and I think if you reread the part of my post you quoted, you should be able to see that.

From my perception, things got a little off topic for the thread. No big deal. In fact I only mentioned you in the hopes that others might not judge you on this one conversation alone, and in turn dismiss anything you have to contribute in the future.

I know you're an adult and can take care of yourself, but I feel you bring some valuable information and perspectives to the threads you engage in. If people disagree with what you say, that's their choice. But it would be my preference that people shoot down a post based on its content, not based on who posted it.

My concern with such attitudes on the internet is that hateful, rude, and distasteful speech has become all too common. Many people post online in a manner they simply would not adopt in a face-to-face conversation. I don't see what's so wrong with disagreeing in a civil manner, though I suppose people will do as they choose.

Ed likes to argue. It doesn't seem to matter about what or with whom. He makes a big impression because he posts a lot on a site with relatively few members. Hopefully that will change as time goes on.

...and intend to prove that we're condescending pedants instead.
But, this isn’t even a gun forum. ?
Gun-adjacent? That’s like berating my neighbor for the guy across the street’s lawn being unmown.?

But it would be my preference that people shoot down a post based on its content, not based on who posted it.

I thought about this, for I believe the same way.
And when I “uningnored” him I was rewarded with patronization and further slight.

I think I can visit here and not miss him.?

Yes, I am the guy that looks around nervously and says to calm down when someone starts yelling racism in a crowded room. I am the type that wants everyone to get along. And will talk with an adult about their issues to them personally, and not coyote a new guy that walks in. Sometimes I walk away. I get enough vitamin Karen in my day already.
I’m a single dad of two. When I get two minutes to have adult time I like it to be such.

As a “sister site” I would think the normal adult conduct would apply. Taking umbrage to the individual rather than pasting it all over, just to damage the site.

While not moderated for Ideas, this site will get enough traffic to be moderated for content and thread drift, which this one has greatly. Blame which I share equally. Even though the conversation is rousing, I am abandoning this thread, but not this site. Maybe a new thread for New Bees will come up and will go better. I for one will welcome them better.?

As a Reference Librarian of long experience, I like to research and define my terms before I use them.

A Racist is someone that believes that there is more than one human race, that certain of these imagined races are better than others, and that the results of crossing these imagined races results in offspring that are lesser creatures than either of their progenitors.

As all of this is obvious nonsense, I tend to avoid concerning myself with the arguments of the advocates of Racism except to occasionally make statements like this one.

I’ve also come over from THR. I’m a British soldier who has an interest in firearms professionally and personally. I shoot game recreationally and I’m getting into deer stalking gradually. I enjoy THR and I like it straight-line policy that doesn’t deviate too much from firearm topics but I I thought I’d come over here to have a look at and perhaps engage in other issues.

Why would a Brit be bothered about the states and it’s politics etc? I genuinely like the country, I’ve spent a lot of time there with work and I’ve intended to travel there as extensively as possible with my partner when the time allows it, so I have a direct cultural interest. I also have a more indirect cultural interest in the over all politics as the UK usually follows suit in whatever happens ‘over there’, so I like to see what’s going on.
