Living Too Close to SpaceX

Today ! was talking to the lady that sold the Boca Chica parcel to Elon.
She is a bit annoyed with the heavy-handed approach of the SpaceX crew has toward the local animals and the environment.
For example, when cleaning up after the failed launches they dragged the wreckage through the bird nesting and feeding grounds rather than taking it out by helicopter.
Elon also has poor relations with the powers that be in the nearby town of Port Isabel. Apparently he wants to improve things that they don't want improved, like local technical schools, water, power and sewage services, roads and railways and other services that might get in the way of the plans of the local movers and shakers.
We'll be talking about what might be done to get Elon & Companies more involved in improving local life in our next meeting... .

when NASCAR teams started moving en mass to bumfuck, NC, they too caused all kinds of improvements to the area like you described.
funny part is, the locals didn't fight it as much.

now, I can understand the dragging crashed shit through bird sanctuary area being a problem.

Yeah, my old home town of Gadsden, Alabama turned down having the race track that eventually wound up in Talladega.
They said it would be too noisy, disruptive, and would attract all of the wrong kind of people.
Now Gadsden is a dying town... .

look at Cleetus and The Freedom Factory, for another example.
He just about single handedly revitalized the town with getting that track functioning and productive/profitable. So much so a developer wants to build housing... right next to the track! We know where that ends: dead track, dead town, crime, destitution.

People generally like things the way they are. It's human nature to resist change. Good characteristic, IMO. Essential to survival of the species. Outsiders come in and change things to the ways they want them to be. Different from the ways things were. So unhappiness is going to result from ignoring human nature. If those outsiders would respect human nature and seek to work their change in accord with it and with respect for it I think they'd still get their changes in the end, but with a lot more acceptance and less unhappiness. My philosophy rant for the day can be summed in in two words: PUBLIC RELATIONS. Apparently Elon's people are very good at technology but very poor at PR.

I'm going to have a presentation next month here at the library concerning getting assistance from Tesla and some other tech companies.
I'll have the head of the EDC as well as the former owner of the SpaceX parcel as speakers, who will also continue on to present at the Lion's Club.
Maybe we can get something going... .

One of my co-workers has a travel trailer in Isla Blanca Park, right beside the ship channel to Brownsville.
He hosted Maria Pointer and a number of local personalities for the launch, as he has a ringside seat that is just outside the safety zone.
Well, he used to be the mayor, so he is pretty well known.
Anyway, he was amazed by the take-off and even more so the mid-air catch.
Another co-worker showed me pictures from the flight that were taken from his back yard here in Donna.

Meanwhile, the Sierra Club affiliated group Save the RGB is suing SpaceX for dumping 'industrial waste-water' during their launches.
Actually, this is potable water used to cool the base of the launch structure...
