In Praise of Mushrooms

Among the nobles of Great Britain during the 18th and early 19th centuries there was a common term for those that gained their wealth from trade, manufacturing or other tawdry sources not related to their ancestry.
That term was 'mushroom'.
The implication was that the individual in question was someone that rose from shit and was therefore someone that could never be of any real importance.

This is how our new nobility, our political class, regard Donald Trump and those that are associated with him.

This political class has normally regard businessmen like what Trump used to be similarly to how the great carnivores regard herd animals - something to be taken down and consumed once they get fat enough, if the carnivore gets a bit hungry.

That is, if the political animal would like the support of a union or other organization then they would use their powers and connections to strip their prey of their businesses, possessions, positions and sometimes their freedom in order to help themselves or their friends toward their next goals.

Sometimes, they merely use their allies to shear their victims of a portion of their holdings, in the expectation that said victim will grow more holdings that will become worth taking at a later date.

Elon Musk's Tesla is a classic example.
Most of the traditional automotive companies expected their noble allies to bankrupt this upstart and then hand the company over to them so that it could be either consumed or quietly buried.

At the company's lowest point, Elon offered to sell the company to Apple for one-tenth of its value at the time.
Apple turned him down, as they expected to be presented with the company - gratis.
Now, Apple has exited the electric car development market... .

Donald Trump is probably the greatest example of what that prey animal can become when he decides to quit being prey and starts to be, if not a predator, then at least something like a water buffalo.

No longer a mushroom, indeed.

Predators beware.

Well, president Javier Milei is mushroom of Argentina who definitely rose against political ruling class and brought success by achieving first monthly government surplus in 12 years after cutting government/departments/spending.

After decades of left leaning socialist government that plunged the country into mountain of debt, he vowed to end "redistribution" socialist programs and cut down government while holding a chainsaw during campaign and eliminated government spending after becoming president. Yup, just like that! (y)
  1. Eliminate 11 of 19 government departments
  2. Stop endless spending
  3. Take chainsaw to "parasitic" state while actually holding a running chainsaw during campaign
  4. Switch currency to US dollar from Argentine peso
  5. International policy of supporting USA and Israel
  6. No longer align with "communists"

At the World Economic Forum, Milei blasted the socialist elite and called for change (I don't think he will be invited back to speak again)

In a fiery and passionate speech, Argentinian President Javier Milei took the stage at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and delivered a powerful message about the virtues of freedom and capitalism. Milei, a libertarian economist and outspoken critic of government intervention, argued that the West is facing a serious threat from the rise of socialism, which he defined as "the intrusion of the state into the economy and the degradation of society.”
Milei called for a return to the principles of individual liberty and free markets, which he said are the keys to prosperity and progress. "The state is not the solution, the state is the problem itself," he declared. "You are the true protagonist of this story. And rest assured that as from today, Argentina is your staunch unconditional ally.” Milei's speech was met with a mix of applause and boos from the audience, but it is sure to generate a lot of discussion and debate. (This is a real speech conducted by Javier Milei at the World Economic Forum. AI was used to translate Javier Milei post from Spanish to English and read in his voice.)

And we have success for this "mushroom" as Argentina experiences first monthly government surplus instead of debt in 12 years!!!

Communism quickly becomes an absolutist nobility that cannot be questioned by anyone that is not part of the absolutist nobility.
Socialism is merely a stealth approach to communism.

BTW, is Milei the Benny Hill of politics?
