The aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk ended her last voyage yesterday at the Brownsville ship channel.

There she will join a number of her sisters as a source of scrap for the smelters of Mexico and Texas.

Sad to see such a beautitul, magnificent and storied weapon defending me and my country become a source for scrap iron.

sadly someone doesn't have the smarts to sell like deck plate pieces for collectors of such weird shit.
probably would make more than scrap on her that way.

Houston can't even maintain the old battleship Texas, which is much cheaper to keep afloat.
She's in dry dock right now.
Once she's repaired she'll be moved out of the Houston area to some place along the coast - they haven't decided where... .

When I was stationed at NAS North Island (San Diego) the Kitty Hawk (CVA63) and Constellation (CV64) were there. That was 75 through 78. While assigned to Marine Barracks there I actually worked for Naval Air Systems Command being senior enlisted at the Navy's Fleet Calibration School. We also had the Ranger (CV61) there. Today all of our carriers and subs are nuclear Navy propulsion. Wow a lot of years have gone bye.

Ought to sail it up to Houston and make it a tourist attraction.
Yeah, many of our retired carriers are now museums in major cities. The old Midway is in San Diego. The old Intrepid in NYC and our first nuclear powered sub the Nautilus in Conn.
