Derek Chauvin Trial Brings Twisted Truth and Great Harm

Please, try to read posts more carefully. In not one single place did I speak about the victim, George Floyd. At all. I simply criticized the gross misuse of police power by the now-convicted felon, Derek Chauvin.

Any time a police officer abuses his/her power, it is a threat to the overall social contract. A police officer simply does not have the right to kill every petty criminal they encounter (whatever their race). The outcome of this case will serve to reinforce American's faith in the value of honest policing, which is why so many police were willing to testify against Chauvin. No good police officer would defend such an embarrassment to police work.

This case is not about George Floyd. If you think so, you are completely missing the importance of this case.
Chauvin and Floyd were both garbage. Chauvin deserves to be in jail. Doesn’t change the fact Floyd was scum. Both things can be true at the same time.

Any way you look at it, the verdict that came down was the only possible outcome. Whether he was responsible or negligent or whatever, the climate of the times dictated that he be found guilty. Justice? Maybe not, but we all knew they weren't going to acquit, we all know what that would have caused.

It is Portland, man, no one should expect anything else from that place.
unfortunately you are correct with this statement, it is a shame that we are supposed to believe that this is the new normal. Working right now near Columbus OH and expect each day on my way back to the hotel some bowelmovement jumping on top of my car or trying to block me.
Since I fear for my life...............tires have good traction.

Sad.
I loved Portland in the '60s and '70s.
Now there's nothing left for me that's west of the Rockies.

-And I'm just waiting for the appeals - and the trials for ALL of those "peaceful protesters" that went around assaulting people, looting and burning stuff in the name of justice... .

It doesn't MATTER what anyone's opinion of Floyd is. I think Trump is straight-up trash, but it wouldn't justify killing him, especially under the color of law. People keep bringing up Floyd's past as if it were relevant. It is not. If Floyd was a Nazi concentration-guard who sold little children to QAnon for their adrenochrome, it wouldn't make it legal for a policeman to kill him on a routine arrest for a non-violent misdemeanor.

All that matters is the course of events during the arrest. At least the jury understood that.

Perhaps, unfortunately the verdict also gives the impression that justice can be influenced by the threat of violence by a mob. That itself is a dangerous precedent.

here we go again: " it's not enough, where is my free obozo car, house and a few million dollar on my account for the hardship my forefathers had to endure:

next thing, these domestic terrorists are going to demand to replace the Lincoln Monument with a statue of oj-simpson or another black scumbag.

Plenty to choose from, the best place to start is Congress, and they all have a D in front of their names.

You are second-guessing the jury from great remove. You have no idea if they felt intimidated. One alternate juror has already come out and indicated that the evidence was overwhelming. Note that the jury deliberated a relatively short time and found him guilty on all counts. That suggests it was an easy call.

There you go with your reading comprehension problems again.

With the riots and the rhetoric? Then the verdict...

There is always the possibility of external influence, which is why juries are sequestered. But one event following another in no way demonstrates a causal chain. Some people may FEEL that the result was the verdict of some external forces, but the burden is on them to prove it, and the information, so far, is all in the opposite direction.

You may be sure Chauvin's appellate attorney will try to raise this as an issue on appeal. That is the point at which we may see some evidence, if there is any. But there hasn't been anything beyond Tucker Carlson's claims, and, as usual, he is not exactly speaking out an abundance of actual data.

I still don't understand why the jury was not sequestered.

I still don't understand why Maxine Waters' threats aren't taken seriously and why the BLM/Antifa's threat to riot across the nation is ignored.
If the old, discarded militant branch of the Democrat Party, the KKK, had made the same threats then it would have made headlines from coast to coast... .

I am not sure what you are suggesting - that we shouldn't have tried Chauvin because you are afraid of Antifa?

The jury was partially sequestered, and Maxine Waters' comments resulted in a rebuke from the trial judge. BTW - the KKK has made plenty of threats during trials over the last 100 years, but I am not aware of it ever resulting in a successful conviction appeal.

And when the Jan. 6 traitors are convicted, should we also grant them appeals because of the threat of right-wing reprisal protest?
