This is a plan the Dems are working on. What’s involved in the process? it would give them automatic Senate seats.

1) A simple majority in each chamber of Congress.
2) A majority vote in a referendum held in the territory involved.
Then bingo!! New state, add a new star.

Hate to say it, but its time to dissolve the union and reorganize as 3-4 new regional nations. Ya, the Chinese will inherit global hegemony, but thats pretty much inevitable now anyways.

America is over, better it die with words and paper than fire and blood.

America is over

I've been saying that, but in my heart I haven't been meaning it, and in my head I've been praying that I'm wrong.

I think rather that we're entering into a period where the states are re-exerting their states' rights powers, and they'll organize into groups of states exerting similar powers in cooperation with each other intragroup, where these states are each still part of a greater Federal union, but where the Federal government is smaller and its power over states is reduced to that of providing infrastructure and regulating intergroup commerce and travel and to that of providing external defense and foreign relations, and (naturally) to that of collecting taxes to fund those Federal activities.

You might call this more of a "Jeffersonian" republic than a "Hamiltonian" republic.

The global result will be that America will present as a single global enity but no longer be the dominant global power.

On one hand, I agree they -and the USVI, Guam, etc should be states - they are liable for Federal income taxes but are not allowed to vote for President.

I have a better idea, we move out of all those places, stop supporting them with our tax Dollars, and let them stand on their own. If they can show they are capable of self sustaining self governance, then consider statehood. Otherwise we add several Federal government, US taxpayer dependent democrat voters. That is what this is all about anyway.

We would be better off not giving 720 billion to foreign governments; most of our states can't stand on their own; at least the left ones can't.
Incorrect! Red states get more federal aid by far!

I would prefer Puerto Rico become its own country.

I'd support WDC becoming a state IF, and only IF, they took Alexandria, Fairfax and Arlington from Virginia. Unless that happens, no deal.

People who do the math will understand why I say that.

My preference would be for Puerto Rico to be its own sovereign nation.
There is no meaningful reason for it to be related to the United States at all.

Or Guam. Or American Samoa. Or the Virgin Islands. Or Hawaii. Or Alaska.

Hawaii, yes, Alaska, no. Alaska is a major outpost we can use against Russia and it has actual resources that the US can use. Puerto Rico and Hawaii are far more resource poor and isolated.

Well hell, let's just sell them to the Chinese!

Not sure of all that is involved, but why do we want 2 shitholes added to the Union? I know why the friggin dems want them.

Do they pay federal taxes? Do they get taxed without representation? Hmmm . . . seems like folks have objected to that in the past.

Well the issue with DC statehood is because DC is similar to Canberra in Australia or Brasilia. It was a purpose built capital, and it's an old example of it. The issue with making them a state is that it'll cause issues at the national level.

There's a few alternatives:

1. Let VA and MD absorb the areas surrounding the DC core so they get "representation"

2. we could donate land around MD and VA (namely, the most liberal counties surrounding the two) and make DC the capital city of a new state.

As it stands, it does not make sense to make it a state. That will give them disproportionate power.

Meanwhile I believe Guam and Puerto Rico, and other territories do not possess the same cultural, or indeed, legal standing that they should. So either we go independence for them, or we maintain the status quo.

DC statehood will cause Democrats to dominate the Senate. While Roscoe may think that's good, that'll just make it easier to pack the court, fuck over our system etc. It's rigging.
