Long suffering fan and eternal optimist of/for the UofSC Carolina Gamecocks.

#GoCocks #SEC #BaseballSchool #WomensBasketball (lowers head in shame) .... we do have really good looking female coeds though, so there's that.

But, modern college football era .....

2-0 vs Ohio State
3-1 vs Michigan
1-0 vs Texas
1-1 vs Nebraska

As much as it pains me to admit, I think you'd be hard pressed to find an SEC team that has a losing record to the Big10.

And Buckeye fans the world over shoulda thanked Lou Holtz for SC's win in 2001...which ended the John Cooper era in Columbus.

My wife and I were at that game, I was still in the media at that time and standing probably 10 feet away from Cooper and Holtz when they shook hands and talked. Cooper was incredibly gracious. And then he went over to Ryan Brewer and told Brewer he made a mistake not recruiting him (I wasn't close enough to hear that myself but Ryan told us he said that in the post game press conference) ... he (Ryan) was Mr Football in the state of Ohio out of Troy or Sandusky or right around there ... and he was MVP of that game. I think that had a lot to-do with OSU fans being angry as well.

So you hired Jim Tressel I think it was. Cooper had won a national championship and started the domination over Michigan ... but anyways, we beat Tressel that first year in the same bowl in a much tighter game we had to come back to win. We were the last team to beat OSU because the next season I think y'all went undefeated and beat Miami, was it, for the national championship?

I have actually been to a couple of games in the big horsehoe. One in the 70s under Woody (loved that man). The other one in the 90s under Cooper and it was a strange cold rainey game. Y'all had that really talented team and it was against Michigan State and, I'm getting old but, I wanna say MSU kicked like six FGs that day and the game ended in a tie. I remember sitting in the open endzone where they had erector set bleachers because I think the stadium was about to undergo a renovation and expansion at the time.

Oh, and another OSU game I attended was mid 90s in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando against Tennessee. OSU was loaded with maybe the Unitas Award Winner (Bobby something or other maybe?) and the Outland Winner (Orlando Pace) and maybe Eddie George (Heisman Winner) was on that team as well??? ... but somehow Tennessee won that game ... I wanna say Little Man Stewart was on that Tennessee team. Pouring down rain. I mean it was a gully-washer the entire game and we were sitting right under where the upper deck gutter was leaking. We were liquored-up so we didn't care.

Annnnnnnnd, I was at the old Orange Bowl (my first wife's family grandfather was a founding member and her other grandfather designed the Thompson... yeah THAT Thompson) when Woody lost his cool. My future first wife at the time was attending Clemson, I was just about to graduate from The UofSC (ROTC) and she got tickets so I went even though I despise(d) Clemson. Art Schlister "the shyster" killed Woody btw. But anyways, we saw it all go-down from our seats in the student section and Woody definitely took a swing at Charlie Bowman, bless that man's heart... or is it Bauman, I can't remember.

I know a little bit about OSU ... but my second favorite team is Big Blue, #GoMichigan! Used to be some epic games between UofM and OSU when I was a kid in the 60s and early 70s.

Good gosh you're right .... I did not realize that his bowl record was this bad. Or that he was 2-10-1 against Michigan!!! That is crazy!

That's why he's a "former" coach.

The cadre of Michigan fans around in my family never fail to bring that up, either. Of course, they haven't had much to crow about since then.

I don't get real into watching sports but as a Nebraskan and a Husker I've got to root for Cornhusker football even in these dire straits.
