    Medium Rare or Medium?

Certain things always taste better when someone else makes them. I can't match my mom's homemade noodles or dinner rolls, but I like mine better than anyone's but hers. Can't fry fish as good as my dad, even though my boss said the crappies (posted above) were the best he's ever had. Certain...

    Official Food Thread

No big plans, but probably throw a brisket on the smoker early Saturday morning and take some over to dad. My kid said he'd make me breakfast in bed, but it would be more like brunch by the time he gets up....so I'd have to go back to bed for that. Mama mentioned fixing me a ham loaf and her...

I know it's supposed to be a healthier option, but nothing I've air fried comes anywhere close to deep fried. It does ok reheating stuff that's already been fried though. Great for leftover pizza too.

    What have you been reading?

I have a handful of novels I've read multiple times, all non-fiction. Books that can be enjoyed more than once have their own shelf here. I've read a few Cussler books. His writing seems to play out like some of those action movies where you wish they'd have made a few more scenes cause you...

    What have you been reading?

Anyone here immersed in a good book currently? Just finished one? I'm curious as to what other folks are/were reading and why? I read to unwind before bed...to sort of zone out and clear my thoughts. Currently reading a first edition (maybe only edition) of "Ernie Pyle in England", a...

Normal May Be A Long Way Off

The welfare reference as it pertains to "paying people not to work" isn't my focus so much as the part where it recently became profitable. It's this. (Which is actually $300/weekly, not monthly). A person previously making $12/hourly would be lucky to draw $300 weekly in normal unemployment...

Normal May Be A Long Way Off

I'm not laying the blame at Biden's feet. The concept of paying people to NOT work is nothing new. It only recently became profitable.

Normal May Be A Long Way Off

Around here, businesses are cutting back hours of operation due to insufficient staff, all while offering ridiculously high wages + sign on bonuses for menial jobs. There'll be no need to force a federal minimum wage of $15/hr. It'll surpass that by default soon enough.

Why the death penalty should never be abolished.

I would have to assume then that you wouldn't buy into the idea that sometimes it's not about revenge or even punishment for that matter. It can easily be seen as removal of the bad for the greater good. To clarify, I don't require death although I do condone it in certain circumstances. If the...

Why the death penalty should never be abolished.

Well then, perhaps some of these perpetuators of evil should be shot while they're hanging...even blindfold some kids and yell "pinata!!!" For some offenses, the great tragedy is that they can only die once.

Why the death penalty should never be abolished.

Is it truly the monopolization of power by the government if the person is convicted by a jury of their peers and the recommended sentence comes from that same jury? Prosecutors (government) in county courts representing the state are elected positions. Judges (also government) overseeing...

Why the death penalty should never be abolished.

The graduated penalties directly coincide with the graduated level of the crime. The same way punishment for the degree of theft, drug offenses and any other crime escalates based on severity. We seek to be certain that the punishments fit the crimes, therefore the sliding scale. Not all theft...

Why the death penalty should never be abolished.

Ok, so FFWD a few decades. U.S. forces captured Saddam turned him over to the Iraqis and allowed him to be tried and executed in their court. Subsequently U.S. forces conducted a raid and killed bin Laden. Were those revenge killings or punishment? Are we only permitted to administer death...

Why the death penalty should never be abolished.

The slippery slope to me is that we, in most states, are allowed by law to take a life in order to preserve our own or the life of another. We can preemptively cause the death of another without ever actually being harmed. But if the person threatening our lives actually follows through on a...

Why the death penalty should never be abolished.

It's already done that way. 1st degree murder, 2nd degree, 3rd degree, the varying levels of manslaughter...then compound it with "gun specifications" etc... There's no way to remove the human element from the administration of justice. Humans themselves made the laws, enforce the laws and...

Why the death penalty should never be abolished.

I don't understand how you can say there are no cases with zero chance of error. 3 of the most high profile shooting incidents in recent years (where the cowardly killer didn't commit suicide) Charleston Parkland Aurora There's no question who. Why no longer matters since that can't be fixed. Is...

Why the death penalty should never be abolished.

I'd call that the only problem. In cases such as the one originally cited, there's zero chance mom admits to causing her child's brutal death in front of her other children if she wasn't the actual cause.

    Enlighten me please?

What the hell is the deal with these companies making "plant based" burgers, chicken tenders, etc? Looks like meat, feels like meat, tastes like meat? Do people really enjoy all this meatiness without actually having meat? I'd think the point would be eating things that don't resemble meat so...
