OK, back to west coast exhausted and sleepy but well worth the trip with puppy named now "Titus".

Some CA comfort food at In-N-Out ... 3x3 (3 patties and 3 slices of cheese) with onion slice (No grilled onion for me, I like the "crunch") and fries with peppers on the side. Yes, I want to die naturally like heart attack, stroke, etc. not by Covid. 🤣🤣🤣

Almost home. Stopped in Grants Pass to get oil changed (Drove over 5400 miles) and having lunch at Casa Amiga at the recommendation from the ladies at service counter.

Starting out with chips and salsa but they also brought out a bowl of refried beans and crumbly cheese. A large jar of salsa was placed on table along with bottles of green (Verde) and red (Roja) sauce. The beans were smooth and delicious with cheese on top made better by adding some salsa with green and red sauce. Yummy. Then came my shrimp cocktail with side plate of goodies to add which I quickly dumped into the goblet. Brought me happy memories of times spent down in Ensenada/Rosarito Beach, Mexico.

Next came my combo plate of carnitas taco, pork tamale and chili rellenos. Yes, more delicious beans with crumbly cheese. All were delicious with super stuffed tamales. Taco came with a good size dollop of guacamole ... Mmmmmmm ... I could not finish my plate and taking most of tamale home.

Livelife is really trying to out do everyone. Its ashame most of his stuff is restaurant food and not homemade. Although I don't get tired of looking at his food travels.

I've made a bunch of meals since I last posted but didn't take photos.

I need to step up my game.

LOL, I have been on the road from CA to AL to pick up Silver Lab puppy #4 for wife and didn't cook on the trip.

I could have posted pictures of beef jerky (Hot and Sweet), bags of chips and cans of Vienna sausages but I didn't think that would be appetizing for many. 😁

I am back home and will be cooking soon. I took 2 of our 4 dogs walking to the beach dog park today and got take out for lunch/dinner (Chinese and BBQ). I did make a nice salad for our 3 guinea pigs ... but didn't take a picture. 😇

BTW, puppy I picked up from Piedmont, AL (What a lush green beautiful place!!!) Yes, worth every bit of 5400 miles driven.

Adorable puppy.

Located here in NE Ohio they claim the grilling season is coming to an end? My grilling season begins 0100 hours on January 1st and ends at midnight December 31st.

Silly, this is why I have a freestanding wood burning stove in the (heated) summer kitchen.

I hope you didn't take offense LL, I was just joshin' ya.

Tonight was pork chops in the Dutch oven with twice baked potatoes and from scratch home made apple pie.

Pork was fork tender. This might be the way we make chops from now on.

Been awhile since we got that much snow down here south of C-Bus. Never moved that much from my grill but I did clean about that much out of my old CJ7 one year, just to drive around in it. Never did figure out where I put the top whenever I took it off.

Cold weather I do a lot more smoking than grilling. Less sitting outside babysitting.

Oh wait been there and done that. I left the truck windows down a small crack, maybe 1/2 inch if even that. Driveway runs North & South and the snow as always was out of the North West.

I had to shovel the thing out.

However, in keeping with food. The only thing I have done recently was make devils food cup cakes adding pecans which went well but needs work. Today is baked Ziti which I made 6 months ago and froze. Still hard to believe that much snow was wind pushed through a tiny crack. Then too years ago I left windows cracked in San Diego when a Santa Ana came through. Big mistake on that note. :)

What we have here is adult Spaghetti O's and franks.

You take one jar of marinara and 2-3cans of the tomato sauce, boil some of the pasta al denta and slice up your favorite dogs (we use Nathan's Jumbo). Lightly pan fry the dog slices and throw everything in the crockpot for a few hours on low.

That looks good. I see the Hot Dog as a food group. When I can find them I like Bore's Head all beef in casing with Nathans being my second. Growing up NYC I just like casing hot dogs. My wife is not a hot dog liker so when I grill steaks or chicken I make some hot dogs to have during the week. :) When she does have a hot dog she actually has put ketchup on a hot dog and mustard on a burger which I see as some sort of sacrilege.

We actually tried some Boars Head natural casing dogs not to long ago. While they are pretty superb we can't afford them regularly.

Nathan's are our go to.

A real treat are the Nathan's Colossal dogs. Those things are the best thing to happen to a hot dog bun.

Same here. Hebrew National are tolerable too,
but hell, I'll eat Sugardale hotdogs if they're grilled.
Absolutely!

On a hot dog note. Years ago I was visiting my sister and brother-in-law in West Virginia. So I went to the market with my sister to get hamburger and hot dogs. I surveyed the hot dog availability and grabbed the Hebrew Nationals. They were in a 7 pack and I grabbed two. My sister goes ballistic about paying whatever it was for a seven pack of hot dogs. I held my ground and told her I would buy them. That done I head for the bakery section and she ask why we are going to the bakery and I told her hamburger and hot dog rolls. She tells me the rolls are in the bread aisle. No, I want real rolls not the ones in the bread aisle. A good hot dog or burger certainly deserves a good roll.

That was maybe 15 years ago and to this day my sister reminds me of it. The kicker was after that weekend her husband demanded she buy the hot dogs and buns that I did. Yes, I will also be happy to eat Sugardale or about any other hot dog. When I can I do look for better. I also like what I have always called the NY Hot Dog Onions. I have a good recipe for making those around here somewhere. :)

NY Hot Dog Onions.
Not sure what hot dog onions are, but sweated down in a combination of butter and olive oil with a sprinkle of garlic powder does it for me. Throw some bell peppers and mushrooms in and you got the makings of a good steak sandwich...or brat.
I use the same recipe for hot dog, hamburger, or sub buns...and pizza crust, bread sticks...whatever. Haven't figured out how to make ciabbata dough. That's next on the agenda.

Store bought hot dogs? My grandmother would come back and haunt me if I even dared think about it. After butchering my daughter and I usually make about 20 pounds and freeze them. The buns are made using "Betty Crocker" sweet bread recipe.

While Google has a few dozen recopies for New York Onion Sauce I have used this one for years. They come out as good as I remember them on hot dogs from push carts in NYC. Something for anyone who tries it, the last item is a "dash of clove" and just a small dash is all you need like the cayenne pepper, maybe 1/8 teaspoon.

I'll have to try the Betty Crocker sweet bread. I like the sweet breads and rolls. Anyway, the linked onions recipe actually is good for the trouble. :)
