Who's Fishing?

Stole this idea from @Troy fairweather .

Who's been fishing? Did you catch anything? Drink some beer?

I went to Branched Oak Lake here in NE a couple weeks ago and didn't have much luck, but it was nice to be outside as it was a beautiful day. That's usually how fishing goes for me. Thank God I'm a decent hunter and get enough meat that way so fishing is just kind of a goof off time.

Fished a half day on a April 1 for the trout opener. Did good came home with 5 Brown's all about 16-17" seen the most people ever, no one cared about the corona. Most of my fishing gear is up state at my dads so here in only have a small setup. Some how the only tackle box I have my mom managed to loose it some how in the car.
I need to pick up a few thing, the lake behind my house is a crappie honey hole. I'll catch a 25 limit in 30 minutes there's some big ones as well, one last year was 19" I should go down to the Delaware and see if the shad are running or try for a striper.

Now you're making me a little jealous. I usually catch only a handful of fish a year, usually small ones. In Nebraska we have a 21" minimum on largemouth bass so that's out of the question. Crappie are hard for me to find but I've been doing a lot of reading on how to fish them. The best luck I've had is with catfish and I feel like anybody can get lucky with them lol

The crappie will find you, just have to use what they like. The small jigheads with the tube bait work very good, those Malibu jigs are one of my favorites. This time of year there looking to spawn, should find them in 2-8 feet of water. Brush piles are one of there favorite hideouts. you need light line I like 4# and a longer for 7-8 foot with light action. Small minnows are great to.

Ah, yes. I've gotten a few of those over the past few years. I have a nice assortment of tackle that I've acquired from bushes or trees when the water level goes down.

I'll be headed out to the lakes (chain of lakes , not the great lakes) as soon as my worthless, lazy, drunk buddy gets off his butt and gets his boat out of storage. Going for walleye and maybe muskie but I'll settle for bass or cats. I don't eat the bass but walleye and cats are some of the best. Drink some beer, throw some line out and relax. Winter is just letting up here in illinois, we had some snow last week.

I agree on the deliciousness of Walleye and Catfish. And I think they're also fun to fish because they put up a good fight too, especially the walleye. Hopefully after I get squared away with my final exams/projects I'll be able to go out and try again. Won't even be going to the range this weekend

We have walleye in the Delaware but only get smaller ones from shore, need a boat for the keeper. I've got some nice trout in there, 2 years ago I got a nice 24" Brown trout. I used the head for catfish bait, caught my biggest channel cat. Just over 24 pounds. Not far off from the state record.

have only caught small stripers, had a few big ones take a shad before tho. If I ever get a smoker I'll get some eels to smoke.

I'm not fishing on the Rio Grande. Too much police tape. Anyway, it's mostly made up of the runoff from northern Mexico.
Our local lakes are Superfund sites.
The ocean is just too far away right now.
I think that I'll just stay home... .

Took my 3 year old fishing for the first time today. She didn't catch anything , we had to cut it short because my wife got called in to work. But it was fun!

I need another old fart to help me handle the boat.

I've got a 24' Sportsman Masters sitting in the shed that needs to get wet.

My son went this morning on a guided package outing on Lake Calcasieu. One of the fishermen had to bail and offered him his already-paid for spot. He hasn't fished really, only as a kid tossing his bobber on his Snoopy reel. He did well. Caught the group's first fish of the day and the first Red of the day which netted him $50! Also got into a flounder. Can't wait when he gets home tonight so I can check out his fillets and praise him.

I've been trying to get out to catch some bull heads, one of my normal spots has some nice sized ones maybe about 20" but can't get any night crawlers. Even don't see liver in the stores, but the liver seems to catch turtles better then bullhead lol. Or go down to the Delaware for some nice channel cats, then bluegill work fine.

Wish I had a smoker since there's some nice eel fishing to.
