DC, Puerto Rico statehood.

There's a few alternatives:
1. Let VA and MD absorb the areas surrounding the DC core so they get "representation"
2. we could donate land around MD and VA (namely, the most liberal counties surrounding the two) and make DC the capital city of a new state.
As it stands, it does not make sense to make it a state.
...
I agree with #1 and I think it's a pretty reasonable, sensible and workable alternative. I don't agree with #2 and I don't think there's any way that the states involved would agree, anyway.

Yep.
Let DC become a state, with the understanding that it would no longer be the capitol of our country.
We would have to create another federal district elsewhere, probably somewhere in the midwest, to be our new capitol.
At the same time, we should probably need to rename Washington, DC and Washington state.
After all, they are named after a dead white slave-owner.
Shameful... .

TULSA!!!!!
Nah - better to pick some piece of desert wasteland.
I'd suggest putting it where Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico come together, if we can talk the Utes, Hopi and Navajo tribes into allowing their lands to be used for such a purpose... .

Puerto Rico has the best claim. DC was literally designed NOT to be a state. I am not too worried about long-term Democratic prospects. My guess is that a few more states in the South will turn purple, and given the raw numbers, that may suffice. Unless the Republicans can turn it around and get more types of people to vote for them. Not looking good on that count right now . . .

It sounds like they're pushing for DC over PR. If successful, the statehood bills ought to at the very least delay inclusion into the union until after the next Presidential election.

The committee marking up the DC statehood is going to report it out (or has already done so by this posting) so NOW's the time to contact your Senators and let them know your opinions on it.
