I refuse to wear a mask

đź‘Ź Very good Hooray for Roscoe

I'm sure this will mean nothing as mask wearing is now a religious practice to some.
Did you even read the page you linked? The only part of the entire page that refers to masks is as follows-

"This is irrespective of whether the person with COVID-19 or the contact was wearing a mask or whether the contact was wearing respiratory personal protective equipment (PPE)"

This is in reference to what to do if exposed. It basically says that, if exposed to someone with Covid, you should still quarantine even if they were wearing a mask. You probably think this proves your point, but it certainly doesn't.

If you click on "personal prevention strategies", masks are recommended at the top of the page. Here you go-

Now, tell me more about how the CDC says masks don't work.....

I suppose you think your link proves masks work, it does not.
If you believe masks are effective please wear one and avoid those that choose not to, pretty simple.

I asked for a link, you provided one that does absolutely nothing to prove your premise. I never said it proves masks work, but I would think the CDC would know more than you or I about the effectiveness of masks.

Actually your example shows us why we would want masks (if the inside is dirty, we wouldn't want that stuff outside the mask). The science on this is clearly demonstrated, and I have provided ample citations in support (see above). What you need to do is refute those studies.
Aren't you just precious... You remind me of a state veterinarian we had that condemned an entire herd of dairy cattle because three newly purchased animals had field tested positive for brucellosis. The animals had been vaccinated for the disease with killed bacteria. Proverbs 14:15 describes you very well.

I’m sure you do. Wear a mask and do whatever else the CDC tells you to do if it makes you feel better.
Looking toward the future, under what conditions do you think it will be safe to not wear a mask anymore?

For influenza, when roughly 95% of the population is either vaccinated or has had the disease, it stops spreading and herd immunity is achieved. My guess is that by md-summer this will have been achieved and we can go back to hugging strangers in the street. As one does.

You are the one that brought up the CDC. I would think that possibly by fall or early winter things will be under control enough to give up the masks.

So you think it would be sooner if nobody wore masks.
Well, that is true, obviously, but at the cost of several hundreds of thousands of additional deaths. Europe has pretty strong resistance to smallpox, but it came at a pretty steep cost over the centuries. Waiting for the vaccine seems like a cheaper price to pay.

I’m asking for your opinion. What defines the virus as being “under control”?
Do you have any thoughts or do you have to receive those from the government?

How about the next virus, what rate of survivability/mortality is the dividing line between having to lock down and/or wear a mask or not?

Maybe masks should be required every flu season. You know if it saves one life....

I gave you my opinion. To me under control means a majority of people either exposed or vaccinated, and hopefully some level of here immunity will kick in at that point.

I'm not sure where you get the idea that I don't have any of my own thoughts, but I'll let that slide, what you think of me means absolutely nothing.

As far as the next virus, these things only happen about every hundred years or so, I don't think I have to worry about that.

Fair enough, to me under control means different things for different people. For the vast majority of young and healthy people, the Rona was never out of control. Elderly people and those with health issues need to be cautious, what that means is up to the individual (and unfortunately Andrew Cuomo).

I could have got the vaccination a couple weeks ago because I am a volunteer fireman, I passed. Others need it more and I am in no hurry to take a vaccination with unknown long term effects, for a virus that poses a very low risk to my health. Does that make me generous or selfish?

Generous, I would say, if you did to ensure others more vulnerable than you could get vaccinated.

A couple days after I passed on the vax I heard O.J. got vaccinated. I'd like to think he got mine. If you don't remember O.J., he had over 11,000 rushing yards in the NFL back in the 1970's.

Strange. All I've seen in the news locally is that African Americans aren't being offered the vaccine at a rate proportional to 1) Their percentage of the population and 2) The inflated rate at which the virus infects their communities.

I've since vowed to stand in solidarity and refuse to be vaccinated until every last member of the African American community has received theirs.
O.J. got vaccinated

(Meant in the least patronizing way I can possibly convey it)

As you might expect, it is all about money. African-Americans are, on average, earning less than White Americans, and so will get vaccinations less frequently. The more money you have, the more access to health care you can afford.

You keep calling me 'precious'. Even my mother doesn't do that.

There was never a doubt in my mind. I'd be pretty far down the list in terms of eligibility anyway, but I'm using my platform to speak out against this injustice.

Full disclosure...call it practicing up, just in case I run for a political office someday. Think I'm getting the hang of it, and I may need those votes ya know.
