Trump and the Wall

We had an unusual visitor today down here in my little town of Alamo, Texas.
Donald Trump just flew in to look at his Wall. In fact, as I was typing that I heard his helicopter go over on his way back to the airport in Harlingen.

The Wall is a pretty big deal here in Alamo. I live about two blocks from the old plastics plant that was shut down under Obama and reopened as a place to assemble and store the Fence sections until they can be erected along the Rio Grande. There's another big storage yard in Pharr, a little way down the road. Between them, there's probably a couple of hundred miles of fence waiting to be installed.

There is a major political battle going on locally about this. Most of the local folks have roots in Mexico and either became (or are becoming) citizens the hard way or have family or friends that are so doing. They are not too happy with the Hondurans and Guatemalans that want to jump to the front of the line and get in free. Meanwhile, the politicians and activists are playing for points and angering the locals to the point that the area is starting to lean red.

Joe Biden is apparently playing for points as well, stating that "not another foot of the Wall will be built".
I was under the impression that that was primarily up to the state of Texas, if the federal government was unwilling to fund this construction.

Anyway, If Joe Biden gets his way, what should be done with all this Wall material?

I guess the best possible solution would be recycling it to build housing. If you can't use it to keep them out, use it for something to keep them in.

I wouldn't call a situation that causes dozens of women and children to die each year while being herded across the Wild Horse Desert to be a publicity stunt - and many of the survivors are sold into slavery in the sex trade... .

The Wall helps to reduce the coyote trade - at least, in this area.

I didn't say that there were not debatable elements to a wall (although it is pretty clear it just moves the problem, which, I guess is OK if you just want that). My point was that Trump's decision was entirely driven by the need for publicity, rather than any humanistic impulses.

I think a wall that can be tunneled under, climbed over, walked around, flown over and driven through is not worth the money we are spending. Not to mention that Trump promised we would not have to pay for it. Seeing as how most illegal aliens are those over staying visas, the wall is not keeping them out.

How many miles are completed now?
About 450 miles in total, mostly around major smuggling areas that are near major roads and away from towns - the quick crossing points.
There are large gaps, but those are mostly where there is a long trek to and from the river or near the aerostats and watch towers.
The riverside parks and wildlife preserves are weak spots, though.
The thing I hate is that they're constantly finding what's left of those that don't make it - mostly women and children - and that the cartels are taking in thousands of dollars each from those that they allow to cross.

Those that can't pay become slaves... .

Illegal aliens crossing at the southern border are way down. Drugs coming in on our southern border are way down.Publicity stunt? I think not. Sorry if I don't share your sympathies for illegals.

As a legal immigrant, I really cannot write down what I think about the illegals because I'd be banned from this site. Level of sympathy? Way below zero !!!

Legal and willing to assimilate (which means not trying turn the United States into the sh!tholes they were coming from - as in Dearborn and Minneapolis) absolutely in favor.

here we go again, and as I have said many times before, these are the kind of people we do NOT need nor want in this country, very few are willing to assimilate. Check out some crime stats from European countries who let this trash in without any restrictions and let them take over parts of their cities to be made look like sh!tholes in a very short time (see dearborn and minneapolis).
And the retard biden certainly is not making any effort to stop them because they will become freeloaders and democratic voters, while still being illegal criminals with falsified papers:
